Well, dears, that was a nail-biter. Previously referred to as the "rabid-hole that is Glendale elections," election season did not disappoint. We stayed quiet throughout to avoid any possible schadenfreude, AKA, Lady Eggy Face.
With additional contenders, few crossovers, and some very clear also-rans, there were two dominant approaches to what should be next for our dear town.
One camp was labeled Progressive while the other wavered between NIMBY and MAGA. The MAGA's who took offense to being called MAGA were perfectly fine calling non-Progressives Progressive, none actually being one, just people not wanting to live with their heads in the sand if the sand was from 1958. Which technically all sand is but The Lady digresses.
The "Progressives." Three candidates, each well versed and qualified. Each honest about the challenges Glendale faces, both financially and structurally. Coincidentally the only three candidates who thought enough of South/DT Glendale to attend the People's Forum. a fortunate development in that each was given generous time to delve deep into their approach towards what's next.
NIMBY MAGAs. A block of three candidates, each well versed in the art of distortion, hyperbole, and fear tactics, offering an effective if not entirely irresponsible series of worse case scenarios.

This sort of nonsense replete with apocalyptic AI doom hammered into the heads of senior homeowners is pure MAGA playbook, and there is no reason it could not have been effective - as has already been. Scare the shit out of vulnerable people who vote, present as the redeeming savior (especially that one guy).
A reminder to doubters: this city council moves at a snail's pace. Every individual project is addressed and reviewed ad nauseum until it gets kicked down the road for years. MAGA NIMBYs know this - versus their dire warnings all of Glendale would go to bed one night very soon and wake up the next day IN EXISTENTIAL HELL. They also seem to have never heard the concept of underground parking.
In the end rational minds prevailed and
the MAGA slate did not. So that there is a possibility - until the next election cycle, anyway - Glendale could one day be something called interesting. Sadness to the MAGA NIMBYS who want to die in Mayberry RFD, maybe one day Glendale can have a great and balanced city that enters the 21st Century, includes everyone, attracts people who want to do more than shop, and is a conversation beyond our Nazi/KKK/Sundown Town roots.
While we keep dreaming the good dream, our Glendale Elections Moment of Zen: the perpetually judgy B2 Bomber dumping on one candidate only to mimic them, but everyone is 50 years older. 😂
